    Catfish Any member of a large family of slow-swimming scaleless fish found in tropical and subtropical waters; it has fleshy barbels on the upper jaw, sometimes with venomous spines. Most species live in freshwater and can be farmed. Length: up to 3.3m (10ft). Order Siluriformes.
    Catfish have no scales; their bodies are often naked with brown-yellow skin. It has a flat head and rounded tails not forked tails.

     

    There are many ways to enjoy this fish such as: crumbed with meal and fried, fried, grilled, curry, etc. Apart from their sweet, mild taste, Yellow catfish is a good source of nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

     

    Catfish is a great source of protein, which is an important ingredient of collagen, a substance which keeps the skin firm and flexible.
    Mineral phosphorus is contained in catfish, plays an active role in the formation of bones and teeth.

     

    Extant catfish species live inland or in coastal waters of every continent except Antarctica. Catfish have inhabited all continents at one time or another. They are most diverse in tropical South America, Asia, and Africa, with one family native to North America and one family in Europe. More than half of all catfish species live in the Americas. They are the only ostariophysans that have entered freshwater habitats in Madagascar, Australia, and New Guinea.
     
    He most commonly eaten species in the United States are the channel catfish and the blue catfish, both of which are common in the wild and increasingly widely farmed. Farm-raised catfish became such a staple of the U.S. diet that President Ronald Reagan established National Catfish Day on 25 June 1987 to recognize "the value of farm-raised catfish."
    Fish must have fins and scales to be kosher. Since catfish lacks scales, they are not kosher.
